Description
Comet C/2023 H2 (Lemmon) is an object whose orbit does not match any defined comet orbit class. NASA JPL has not classified Lemmon as potentially hazardous because its orbit does not bring it close to Earth.
Lemmon orbits the sun every 1,420,000 days (3,887.75 years), coming as close as 0.89 AU and reaching as far as 492.91 AU from the sun. Its orbit is highly elliptical. It made its closest approach to the sun on Oct. 29, and is how heading back into space.
At this point, the comet is really moving fast , moving at nine degrees a day . That’s about half an angular degree or the diameter of a Full Moon every 90 minutes, a motion versus the stellar background that should be easily discernible after following the comet for about 10 minutes, so that is why I had to take such short exposures.
